[FAN ACCOUNT] 130627 - AIA K-pop Concert in Malaysia

I went to K-pop Dream Concert Live in Malaysia in the month of May and I enjoyed it.  One month later, I went to yet another concert!  This time, it was AIA K-pop Concert in Malaysia.  What made this concert extra special was the three performing acts who all came from the same company, Cube Entertainment.  My favourite K-pop company!  The three acts were 4Minute, BEAST, and G.NA.  In January 2011, the same lineups came to Malaysia for DiGi Live K-pop Party and I attended that one too with my dad and younger sister.  This time for AIA K-pop Concert, my dad tagged along again.

My dad and I took a flight to Kuala Lumpur on the same day of the concert.  We arrived at Kuala Lumpur about four hours before the tentative time of the concert.  We made our way to the stadium where the concert was held via Light Rail Transit (LRT).  The concert venue was only two stations away.  When we arrived at the stadium, we wandered around the stadium, which was already filled with fans and AIA (M) Berhad's agents, staffers, policyholders, and family members.  The concert was initially planned as a private concert for those related to AIA (M) Berhad only.  After discussing with Malaysian fanclubs and K-pop concert-goers, the company decided to make the concert open to public.  *cough* /Extra revenue/ *cough*  *cough again* /Nothing wrong with that/ *cough again*  I bought the concert tickets for my dad and I through Malaysian BEAST's fanclub, MYB2UTY.  About fifteen minutes before the concert started, we entered the concert area.  Upon hearing songs (which turned out to be music videos) by the Cube artists being played in the concert area, I felt excited and could not wait to see the performing artists live again, especially BEAST!

G.NA was the first performer.  Even as a solo singer, she did not fail to capture the audience's attention with her powerful yet sweet vocal and her friendly greetings.  Her first song for that evening was 'Supa Solo', one of my all-time favourite songs of hers!  G.NA also performed '2Hot', 'Bananas', and the English version of 'I'll Back Off, So Live Well' (in which, B2UTY went wild when BEAST's Jun Hyung came out to perform his rapping part) before performing a two-song medley of Rihanna's songs, 'Take a Bow' and 'Rude Boy'.  Her remaining performances of 'First Kiss', 'Top Girl', and 'Black and White' kept the crowd cheering.  I especially liked it when G.NA mentioned during her talk time that Malaysian fans have been doing great at supporting the United Cube family and asked for continuous interest and support.

The audience continued to gleefully scream, shout, and sing when 4Minute came on stage.  The girls appeared on the stage with their stylishly sassy performance of 'What's Your Name'.  They also performed 'Mirror Mirror', 'I'm Okay', 'HUH', and 'Muzik'.  I enjoyed every performance but I particularly liked their emotional balladry song 'Pretend'.  Before stepping out of the stage, the girls performed the bubbly 'Heart to Heart' and the catchy 'Hot Issue'.

Then...the most anticipated (for me, personally) act of the evening...the one, the only, the amazing BEAST!  As expected, the audience, including me, went wild when an introductory snippet featuring BEAST's members was played.  The next thing that came up was Gi Kwang's "Byeol-i bit na neun areumdawoon bam-iya-iya~".  The BEAST's members appeared on stage to perform their upbeat 'It's a Beautiful Night'.  What made the audience (at my area) even more hyped up was the members running towards the front part of the stage from the beginning of the song.  So, my eyes were pleasantly treated to the up close view of real life BEAST's members!  Dear God, thank you very much!  I frantically waved my rose-shaped lightstick and sang along while smiling ear-to-ear.  BEAST is known as one of the groups with outstanding fan-service.  That fact was really shown that evening even from their first performance.  The group performed 'Bad Girl' and 'Shock'.  These two songs are their first two title songs.  So, being able to see them perform those songs and dance the choreography meant so much to their B2UTY fans, trust me.  The other songs that BEAST performed so marvelously were 'Special', 'Fiction', 'On Rainy Days', 'I Knew It', and 'Freeze'.  Right after that, a new but familiar tune was played.  I immediately screamed joyfully when I heard the introduction music of one of BEAST's new songs, 'Will You Be Alright'.  I could tell that a few of the audience members who were near me turned their heads to look at me.  They must be wondering why I suddenly shrieked.  It was another special treat for B2UTY in Malaysia because that was the first time the song was performed overseas, and the second time it was ever performed live.  The first time the movingly sad song was performed was during B2UTY Party event at Maru Park, Seoul, South Korea.  Oh yea, now I remember something!  During 'Will You Be Alright', Jun Hyung missed a tempo and ended up giggling while doing his "Stay with me babe, stay with me babe.. Don't go, don't leave me babe.." part.  It was so cute!  Their last performances were 'Beautiful' and the encore song 'VIU'.  The members had lots of fun on stage, running around and making each other wet by splashing drinking water from bottles.  In fact, the members seemed to be in a very good mood from the beginning of their appearance on stage.  That made fans extra happy.  One of the things that the members said that I particularly remember is Dong Woon's "[Translated] Now I know why Malaysia is so hot.  It's because of your passion."  *o*  Smooth move, Son-Nam-Shin!  Another one is in Yo Seob's advice for everyone to take extra care of their health because of the haze, "[Translated] Please stay healthy.  Because you exist, I exist." *o*  Very sleek, Yang-Yo!

That evening is definitely a memorable evening for me.  I am sure many fans think so too.

The lines above have been playing in my mind over and over again for a few days.  They're from a new song called 'Sadness' by a K-pop/ Mandarin pop group called Mystical Formula (M4M).  The one I'm particularly referring to right now is the Korean version.  There's also a Mandarin version of the song.  I don't exactly know why but this song has been on my playlist since the day it was released.  In fact, my phone is playing the exact song on repeat as I'm typing this now.  I have also been listening to this song while driving to campus and back home.  You can say that I've been intoxicated by this song.  Haha...it's kind of true.  The song is catchy and upbeat in a way that intrigues my musical interest.  The official music video for the song is in Mandarin.  A few days after the release of the music video, M4M performed the Korean version of the song on Mnet's M!Countdown.  The group also performed the Korean version at its debut showcase the day before.  When I watched a video of the M!Countdown performance, I was blown away by how good the group performed the song live, along with the dancing routine.

Considering that this group is a fresh rookie group, the members seem to have tremendous talents as well as charm.  The fact that this new group has been diligently trained by Cube Entertainment, my favourite entertainment agency, adds to its charm.  Of course, I can't simply like a group or a soloist just because they come from my favourite agency.  I usually check them out first and give them a chance.  I think it has a lot to do with personal preferences on the styles and concepts of music.  Cube's style just fits me.  It is important to mention here that this group is not completely under Cube Entertainment.  It's a collaboration between South Korea's Cube Entertainment and China's Starry Sky Entertainment.

I've been considering to purchase 'Mystery Formula', M4M's first mini album, but I don't think it has been released  as physical album in South Korea yet.  I'm not even sure if there will be a physical release of the album in South Korea.  They would probably release it in China only.  But then, I can't be so sure about this yet since M4M hasn't had its official debut showcase in China.  Very soon, though.  The members will depart to China and debut there.  I don't know how often they will promote in both South Korea and China, but I hope that they will promote in South Korea actively too because I want to see them on South Korean music shows.  ^^  All the best to Mystical Formula!

CUBE and I

Cube Entertainment, or in short, CUBE, is without a doubt my favourite South Korean entertainment agency. It's not just because the first ever K-pop group that I like so much comes from that agency. As much as that influences my favouritism, it's not enough to keep me loyal to the agency. So, apart from BEAST being the reason I'm a K-pop fangirl and CUBE is the agency that manages BEAST, I'm also impressed by the other talents in CUBE. 4Minute, CUBE's first girl group, portrays a bold yet feminine girl power image. G.NA (a.k.a Gina) is such a friendly and talented solo singer. More recently, BTOB (Born TO Beat) managed to capture my attention as a boy group that doesn't only sing well (very well, in fact) but dances well, plays musical instruments, and consists of members who are funny and down-to-earth. I really believe that CUBE is a company that doesn't only pay great attention to its artists' career development but also provides family-like environment. Of course, that would depend on the members' personalities and compatibility, you would say. Yes, that's true. So, I'm marveled at how closely tight the relationship between CUBE members are, especially those in the same group. As the matter of fact, in a poll among K-pop artists this year, BEAST was chosen as the group with the best teamwork. Even BEAST members acknowledged that to a point that they pointed out that they are in fact "too close".  Despite having talented artists (and trainees), CUBE doesn't flaunt too much of what it has got, at least not out front or in an obvious way.  CUBE does it silently and steadily.  So, there's humility in the agency.

But let me tell you this - being a fangirl (or fanboy) is tough. I'm referring to being a devoted or truly supportive fan. It doesn't only drain you financially but emotionally, mentally, and physically too. Financially as in having to spend (or how I like to call as "invest") a wholesome amount of money on albums, merchandises, tickets, donations, etc. Emotionally as in having to feel the exhaustion that the artists go through every day for the sake of showing their best, as well as the emotional challenges that some low-lifers or haters enjoy giving you. Mentally as in having to withstand the psychological games that come along due to (initially healthy) competition with other artists or fandoms. Physically as in having to suffer the night and day right after a concert or airport stanning or hotel stanning or lining up to buy tickets, etc. All of these are common sceneries in a fan's life. What's more is that fans aren't paid to do all that they do for their artists. In fact, fans are the ones that spend their money, time, and energy for the sake of showing their support and love. So, take the time to acknowledge and respect the fangirls and fanboys around you because they've gone through so much and it shall continue. ^^

I often think of how nice it would be if I could work at CUBE someday. I could work in the finance and administration department since that's my major in university. If not, I could be one of CUBE managers since I think I can flexibly adapt to the artist(s)' schedules and routines. Hey, who knows? :D

Apart from my growing fondness towards the talents in CUBE, I'm also flattered by the luck I've been receiving with regards to CUBE, directly or indirectly. Let me tell you about some CUBE-artists-related contests that I've won in the past and happenings that occurred recently. Last year in July, I won tickets to two of BEAST events in Malaysia - BEAST Asia Fanmeet in Kuala Lumpur, and MTV World Stage 2011. I blogged about these two winnings before, so you can read it here.

This year, I've been quite lucky with BEAST's junior group, BTOB, contests.
First, it was the contest by ONE TV Asia, whereby winners would get signed picture along with either BTOB's 1st mini album or official merchandises.  What contestants were required to do was to answer two questions based on footages of BTOB in Jakarta for the launching of ONE TV in Indonesia.  FYI, ONE TV Asia is an SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System)-linked channel for Asian countries besides South Korea.  I was fortunate to have won BTOB signed picture, official sticker card set, and Lee Chang Seob (BTOB's member) official clear file.

I was delighted to receive these all the way from ONE TV HQ in Singapore.

The second BTOB contest that I joined was by 8TV Nite Live.  For this contest, participants needed to complete the slogan "BTOB's music is irresistible because..... (in less than 50 words)".  So, I put on my creative cap to come up with a sentence that I aimed to be straight-forward and intelligent-sounding.  I don't remember my complete sentence but it was something about BTOB being capable of making our hearts beat fast through their upbeat songs and also moving us emotionally through their ballad songs.  So, that was the point that I put forward.  Just the point, not the actual sentence, okay.  About a week after the contest' closing date, I received a message, telling me that I was one of the winners!  I won BTOB's 'Born to Beat' Asia Special Edition album (which I've already bought before, actually) and a poster.

Another occurrence was not a contest.  I preordered BEAST's 5th mini album 'Midnight Sun'.  In every album, there is a random photocard of a member.  We wouldn't know whose photocard we would get until we unbox the album and look for the photocard inside.  Even though I love all of the members in BEAST, I have my bias, a member I especially adore.  A lot of BEAST's fans do, and it's not just the group BEAST, of course.  So, I received my 'Midnight Sun' a few days ago through mail.  I was very excited but also nervous since I don't know whose photocard I was going to get (not that it's a really big deal).  I had two albums with me because I preordered another one for my sister's friend.  I picked up one of the albums without thinking much.  After unboxing the album, I opened it up to see the photocard inside.  At first, I thought I was trolled by CUBE since I couldn't see any photocard in between the attached photobook and CD.  I then flipped through the pages of the photobook and something fell down from between the pages.  Guess whose photocard I got?  JANG HYUN SEUNG!!  And yes, he's my bias in BEAST.  It was such a happy moment for me.  There was a one sixth chance that I would get my bias' photocard and I got it!  That wasn't all.  It turned out that the photocard wasn't the only thing I got.  I also got a Cashbee card with BEAST as the illustration image.  A Cashbee card is a prepaid card used for transportation, shopping, movie, and eating in selected shops in South Korea.  Discounts can also be obtained for some items or activities.  So, it's very useful and quite valuable.  BEAST is the current ambassador of Cashbee.  Only some 'Midnight Sun' albums contain Cashbee card, so I was lucky to get one of them.

I hope my lucky streak doesn't end anytime soon.  Plus, it's not just about luck, you see.  The contests that I usually choose to join are the ones that involve some thinking as well as persuasive strategies.  I want to earn the prizes.

"Insane"ly Anticipating

Tomorrow (21-03-2012) afternoon, there will be 'The Grand Launching Show'.  It's BToB's debut showcase.  The showcase can be watched through live streaming on BToB's official YouTube channel.

The first teaser video for BToB's debut track has been released.  I believe the song's title is 'Insane', based on what is written in the video's description.  A Pink's leader, Cho Rong, is featured in the teaser video.  Of course, the highlight of the teaser video (for me) is the scene where the seven members are sitting or leaning in silence in an ancient-looking room filled with pianos, which are later on fire.

Some might comment that this group looks similar to BEAST, their senior group under the same agency.  Yes, I can see a resemblance but they don't appear to be like BEAST's clones to me.  It's just the aura-filled feel that CUBE's boy group(s) seems to bring about, you know?  When you see BToB's teasers or performances, you may be reminded to BEAST due to the fact that they come from the same agency.  I think it's normal for an agency to have a signature style.

So, the names of the seven members have been revealed through BToB's Daum fancafe.

The group consists of Lee Min Hyuk, Seo Eun Kwang, Lim Hyun Sik, Jung Il Hoon, Shin Peniel D., Yook Sung Jae, and Lee Chang Sub.

As the debut date for BToB, the new group under Cube Entertainment, draws nearer, I feel more intrigued to see their performances.  I also plan to buy their debut album (original CD, manufactured in South Korea, of course).  So, I'll be saving up more and might become picky when spending money.  Plus, BEAST's comeback is in April, where a new full-length album will be released.  So....don't ask me out so often for now!  Unless, of course, you'll pay for everything.  LOL

Apparently, it is said he's not in the debut stage preview.   So, for now, only Seo Eun Kwang, Jung Il Hoon, Im Hyun Sik, and Lee Min Hyuk are the confirmed known members [Credit: http://msiaofficialbtob.blogspot.com/].  The other three members have not been identified yet.

I tried to keep my cool but I couldn't.  I couldn't because this is about the new boy group under Cube Entertainment (CUBE).  To be exact, this group is under Cube DC, another sub-label of CUBE.  Remember A Cube Entertainment, the first sub-label of CUBE?  Cube DC is the new sub-label.  Some of you might be questioning why CUBE needs another sub-label, or why do they need any sub-label at all in the first place.  It's their management strategy and it's not something bad.  I'm a student of a business faculty, so I understand that having sub-labels may be a wise thing to do for a talent management agency.

Last year, it was predicted that the new seven-member boy group might debut in January 2012.  After January arrived, it was found that the group would debut later than that.  After waiting for a couple of months, fans are now squealing and spazzing over the official announcement of the group's name and debut date (22-03-2012).  I'm one of the fans. Yes, I've fallen for them even before their debut.  When I heard that CUBE was going to debut a new group, I kept thinking about the possibility of me ending up as a fan just like I'm a fan of BEAST, who's under CUBE as well.  Then, the teaser video came along, showing the members dancing praise-worthy acrobatic moves in tracksuits and masks....and boom, I got hooked!  They look so young, fresh, and promising.  Oh, right before BEAST debuted in 2009, they also did a group dance teaser with masks (bandannas) on.  So, I feel intrigued by the similarity in tactics that this new group is doing.  It's one of CUBE's signature styles, so it gives me the 'CUBE effect', you know.  I'm so helpless.

The new group is called BtoB a.k.a. BIIB, pronounced as "B to B", which stands for "Born to Beat".  The seven members (who I'm sure are all younger than me -.- but we'll see) are named Il Hoon, Hyun Sik, Min Woo, Eun Kwang, Min Hyuk, Sung Jae (not revealed yet), and Chang Seob (not revealed yet) [Credit: BTOB (Born To Beat)].  I haven't got to learn their surnames yet (and their birth dates, training backgrounds, specialties, family members, blood groups, ideal types).

The song they're performing in the video is their actual song from their debut album, which will be released soon.  It's called '그 입술을 뺏었어' (I Stole those Lips).  Note that only five of the members are in the sitcom.  The other two are yet to be officially introduced.

I wish this new group the best wishes.  And if it is fated that I really become a fan of this group, I'll be looking forward to being a part of the boys' journey in K-pop industry.  Il Hoon, Hyun Sik, Min Woo, Eun Kwang, Min Hyuk, Sung Jae, and Chang Seob, nuna's here for you.

Antis and overly judgmental people, back off!  I'm giving this group a chance.  You can go on and be happy somewhere else.

according to urbandictionary.com, a fangirl/ fanboy is defined as "a person who has a compulsive dedication to a video game series, anime series, and/ or music artist".  here, i would like to introduce to you, a fangirl that i happen to be close with.  ^^  i paid her a visit recently and snapped some photos of her possessions that give clear hints that she's such a fan.  i'm kind of a fangirl too, just so you know.

 before you enter her room, you'll be greeted by this 'Welcome to B2ST Airline' poster.

i guess this is kind of like a warning sign for non-fans or those sitting on fences.  like "enter at your own risk".  no biggy, though!

as you enter the room and close the door, there's another poster!

the poster has BEAST on it whereas the 2 little pictures on the right have Arashi on them. 

she's a fan of the CUBE family too!  no wonder we're such good friends!  like..seriously~

BTW, 'arashi' literally means 'storm' in Japanese language.  ya la dalam sigek lagu sidak tok ada line "rollin' rollin' goin' rollin'.. we make storm!".  lagu 'Attack It!'.

her drama and movie DVDs/ VCDs collection...mostly Asian dramas or movies.

this box (bigger than the ones shown before) contains CDs/ DVDs/ VCDs of the artistes she supports.  some are actually imported items from Japan and South Korea, and others are Malaysian or Asian version of the albums.

she's also a huge fan of a British pop group, Westlife.  she has been a fan since she was 12, if i'm not mistaken.

okay okay.....so that 'fangirl friend' of mine is really me.  i knew it would be tough to fool some of my friends or family members/ relatives who already know my fandoms. :)  just wanted to fool around a little.  no harm done, right?  ^^v
